Most of this early work was made during a Bachelor of Visual Arts Honours degree at the National Institute of the Arts, Australian National University.

During this time I experimented with a variety of materials and working processes, undertaken through project-based assignments. Part of this process involved critical assessment in regular departmental critiques and studio theory tutorials.

As part of third year study I spent several months in Colorado, USA and at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. This was a formative period, I first experienced stone carving and the dreariness of winter in London .

In the final year of the degree course I adopted a necessary engagement with the conceptual and theoretical aspects of contemporary art practice. This was done through a written Honours component addressing the thematic context of Everyday, the 11th Biennale of Sydney.

Post art school I have re-addressed a practice that focuses on the nature of materials. Rediscovering this space has allowed me to concentrate on the development of a personal sculptural language, divorced from much of the banality that preoccupies contemporary art.

The practice of art for me is not necessarily one of critical engagement. I seek to create beguiling objects that give occasion for the celebration of human perception and experience.
